MUSIC

Music has always been a universal language—transcending borders, generations and backgrounds to bring people together in shared experience. At the Arundel Festival, music lies at the very heart of our celebration of the arts. Whether it’s classical, choral, jazz, folk, or contemporary, music has the power to move, unite and uplift us all.

From the open-air ARUNDEL MUSIC FESTIVAL in Brooks Field to intimate recitals at St Nicholas Church or Arundel Cathedral, street performances, and the new JUBILEE SESSIONS, music fills the town with energy and emotion. It creates moments of joy and connection that are accessible to everyone, regardless of age or background.

As a cornerstone of the Arundel Festival of the Arts, music helps define the atmosphere of Arundel each summer—turning everyday spaces into stages, and listeners into participants. We are proud to support emerging and established musicians alike, and to continue building a programme that reflects both the diversity and universality of musical expression.

MIKE CAREY - Arundel's Jazz Chameleon is integral to the scheduling of concerts and events at the VICTORIA INSTITUTE

and the JAILHOUSE, hosting nationally respected musicians from the jazz, folk and classical worlds as well as

providing a platform for local musicians to perform. His own 5-piece band, BIG HOUSE grew out of musical friendships established at the Jailhouse, and now with four albums under their belt, all originals written by Mike, with their distinctive

genre-bending blend of jazz, funk, groove, Afro and Latin they are a successful and popular feature in venues and

jazz clubs across the South. For the last three years Mike has been the Musical Director of the Arundel

based PHOENIX BIG BAND, and has invested his energy into raising the profile of the band both locally and

further afield, as well as encouraging the band into embracing more challenging projects, notably the

Count Basie and Glenn Miller shows that have featured in previous festivals.

Drama performance is always a highlight at Arundel Festival of The Arts. Local theatre company, Drip Action, like to produce new, lesser known work that will entertain, be thought provoking, challenging and funny - often at the same time. Home productions are performed in their studio theatre at the Victoria Institute in Arundel and at midsummer in the atmospheric Chapel Barn in South Stoke.
