Arundel Landscape Artist of the Year 2025 – A Flexible First Year

As with all new initiatives, our first-ever Landscape Artist of the Year Competition has been something of a work in progress. Despite extending the deadline, we received fewer entries than hoped for, but rather than lose momentum, we’ve adapted to make sure the competition still celebrates local talent in the best possible way.

This year, instead of selecting finalists to paint on location, all entrants have been invited to take part by creating their own interpretation of the Fitzalan Road Windmill. To make the competition more accessible, we’ve also introduced a flexible painting schedule, allowing artists to complete their work at times that suit them, whether from the Old Granary garden (Venue 42 on the Gallery Trail) or even from the riverbank opposite.

The public will still decide the winner — just in a slightly different way. From Wednesday 20th August, the completed artworks will be displayed in the garden of the Old Granary (Venue 42). You can cast your vote in person up until

5pm on Sunday 24th August, or vote online via our website.

The winning entry will be announced on Bank Holiday Monday, 25th August.

This year’s changes mean more inclusivity, more flexibility, and still a chance for everyone to enjoy the creativity of our local artists. It may not be the finished article yet but it’s a promising start to what we hope will become a much-loved annual competition.

In addition to the £250 art supplies for the winner there is also a chance to win a spot at an "Arty Afternoon Drop In Session" with Kate Tugwell - professional artist and trained tutor for those who help to decide the winner.

Kates Artynoon drop-in sessions are every Thursday, 2.00 - 5.00pm at Storrington Village Hall, RH20 4DZ and Include personal tuition, refreshments and camaraderie! https://www.katesartclasses.com/
